Conceptual Design of a Hybrid Hydrogen Fuel Cell/Battery Blended-Wing-Body Unmanned Aerial Vehicle—An Overview

The manuscript presents the conceptual design phase of an unmanned aerial vehicle, with objective a systems approach towards integration hydrogen fuel-cell system and Li-ion batteries into aerodynamically efficient platform representative future aircraft configurations. Using classical to combination low- high-resolution computational simulations, final blended wing body UAV was designed maximum take-off weight 25 kg 4 m wingspan. Preliminary aerodynamic propulsion sizing demonstrated that is capable completing 2 h long mission powered by 650 W fuel cell, hybridized 100 Wh battery pack, quantity 80 g compressed hydrogen.
